GANDERBAL, Nov 13: In a major push to enhance agricultural and livestock resources in the district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today conducted an extensive tour of the Block Lar to inspect various agricultural and allied sector projects that have been approved under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP).
These projects are set to benefit local farmers, promote sustainable practices, and boost the agricultural and dairy sectors in Ganderbal.
The DC visited the Haripora Fodder Station, where he unveiled a hay shed designed to support local livestock by ensuring a steady supply of quality fodder. He was briefed about the Merino rams and ewes imported from Australia.
The DC engaged in a detailed discussion about the various types of wool, the differences in micron counts, the batten flooring in the shed and Kashmir’s finest wool breeds.
The visit also included an inspection of the Common Facilitation Centre, where essential services for wool and pelt processing are available to farmers.
At Watlar, the DC inaugurated a free-range poultry unit, promoting healthier livestock and reducing feed costs for farmers. Additionally, the DC held discussion with the members of the Humsafar Dairy Self Help Group in Chanthan Lar.
The DC also visited Nasir Dairy Farm, where there was a detailed discussion on milk collection processes and potential improvements.
Further bolstering agricultural infrastructure in the district, a tractor and greenhouse facility were distributed among local farmers to support modernized farming practices. A commercial Sheep unit was also inaugurated at Repora, Lar.
In Tehsil Bagh, the DC inaugurated a mother orchard and nursery as part of HADP efforts, supporting fruit cultivation, which will provide quality saplings to local growers and encourage high-quality fruit production.
The DC concluded the tour with a visit to the newly established Custom Hiring Centre at Theru Ganderbal. This facility is designed to provide affordable access to essential farming equipment for local farmers, allowing them to hire machinery as needed to support crop and land management.
