DC imposes restrictions on fee charged by private schools

KATHUA, Apr 5: District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kathua Rohit Khajuria has imposed restrictions on charging of admission fee on promotion to next class, sale of stationery items and uniforms etc in the school premises in Kathua district.
The order to this effect was issued by DC here, today in exercise of his powers under Section 144 of CrPC.
The restrictions will continue for a period of two months from the date of the issuance of the order.
The order further reads that no admission fee can be charged by the school management while promoting students to next higher classes, development charges equivalent to 20 percent of one month fee can be charged only, stationery items and uniforms, school bags etc. can’t be sold by the School Management . However, text books as per the syllabus can be sold by the school management strictly on the notified and fixed prices.
The order was issued by DC following the complaints received by the administration that the school management was overcharging the fee in the shape of admission fee while promoting the students to next classes. Besides, building development fund etc was also charged from the students.
Meanwhile, following the protest by parents of private school students against the State Government and private schools who they alleged were looting the parents of children on the name of admission and new registration , re-registration  fee and sale of books, the Chief Education Officer, Kathua, Nirmal Choudhary along with a team of Education Department officers paid surprise visit to private schools at Little Angel School, JK Public School and Nav Adarsh Higher Secondary School  Kathua today and inspected  the record maintained by them regarding admission , re -admission and registration of students.
