DC inspects work progress on 2 major canals

LEH: May 4:The ongoing remodeling and upgradation of 15.6 km Abi canal  under AIBP scheme at the cost of Rs.8.15 crore from Shey village to Agling was inspected by Tsering Angchok, DC Leh today.
The canal is presently irrigating 650 hectares of land and the Irrigation Department   has utilized Rs.3.12 crore by end of March 2012 and by 15th of this month,  8.5 km of work will be completed.
While seriously examining the progress and quality of the work at major key points of the canal from Choglamsar to Shey, DC instructed the engineers to speed up the ongoing work considering the fast approaching farming season.
He also inspected Irrigation Canal of Upshi Pashmina Goat farm.
Terming this canal the “life line” for Upshi Pashmina farm, he instructed the engineers and contractors to complete the canal work and  make it functional by May 15 in order to ensure proper growth of lakhs of trees planted there and higher production of fodder.
