JAMMU, June 19: The district administration today organized a special sensitization camp for transporters and drivers ahead of the Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, termed the transport operators as the first receivers of pilgrims. He asked them to extend proper guidance to the pilgrims so that they do not face any inconvenience during their pilgrimage.

Stressing upon the transporters to hold high the principle of “Atithi Devo Bhava”, the Deputy Commissioner said that Jammu and Kashmir is blessed with tremendous tourism potential especially pilgrim tourism and lakhs of tourists throng our State every year and it is our prime and moral responsibility to ensure them a comfortable environment.
“Tourists should leave the State with a strong message of hospitality and serene atmosphere they enjoyed here so that they further tell their brethren about the real picture of Jammu and Kashmir which offers a variety of tourist facilities”, he asserted.
“Pilgrims are our ambassadors for promotion of State’s tourism potential so it is the responsibility of transporters to welcome them with open heart and provide requisite information and hassle free transportation”, the DC added. He asked the Auto Driver Union to display fare lists on each Auto Rikshaw to avoid any overcharging.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Arun Kumar Manhas and Regional Transport Officer, Ashwani Khajuria besides other senior officers were also present.
Meanwhile, the RTO informed that temporary toilets will be provided at the Taxi Stand, Railway Station Jammu during the Yatra days while for spot registration counters have been established at Vaishnavi Dham, Sarasvati Dham at Railway Station.
