JAMMU, Nov 12: To provide an opportunity to the local weavers/artisans for direct interaction with District Administration and give impetus to their products, Handloom & Handicrafts Department today organised an exhibition cum interaction programme “Artisans Meet” at DC Office complex.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa, inspected the exhibition of Phulkari, Basohli Art Paintings, jute bags, Pashmina Shawls, Bamboo products etc.
CPO, Yoginder Katoch, Assistant Director Sonika Parihar along with artisans of the district were present on the occasion.
The Deputy Commissioner also convened an interaction meeting with the artisans and listened to their issues which were mainly related to subsidy on raw material, international exposure, assistance in packaging and logistics, display of products at Jammu Airport etc.
The Assistant Director briefed that the department is endeavouring to promote the local handloom products on national and International marketing platforms and assisting the weavers/artisans to produce the finest quality handloom products to grab the market attention.
The Deputy Commissioner praised the efforts of the Handloom department, who has pushed and promoted this process in mission mode and is working effortlessly in marketing and publicity of the work of the handloom Societies. She appreciated jute bag production by the artisans to replace the environmentally hazardous Polythene products.
The Deputy Commissioner suggested the weavers to add new designs and colour to the products to popularize the Jammu craft at national and international level.
She also presented appreciation certificates to the artisans for their efforts and contribution towards the development of handicrafts/handlooms.
