KATHUA, May 8: Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rohit Khajuria conducted a surprise raid against illegal mining in Sahar Khad this evening and seized three heavy machinery, three dozers and two tippers on the occasion.
Besides, three persons including drivers and laborer were arrested. In addition to DC Kathua, the other members of raiding team included Additional DC, Ashok Kumar, ACR Jatinder Mishra and other civil and police officers.
Reports said that DC Kathua on the basis of complaint by the villagers adjoining Sahar Khad that illegal mining has taken place in the Sahar Khad despite ban and imposition of Section 144 in the area. Taking strong note of the same, DC Kathua raided the area along with other officers this evening.
The illegal mining has posed a grave threat to adjoin Railway bridge on the Khad and the agriculture land as it has expanded the river bed to a great extent.
The Kathua Police has also registered a case in this regard and started the investigation in this regard to unmask the mine mafia responsible for illegal mining and extraction from the Khud.
