Directs for constitution of tehsil level committees to check poppy cultivation
KUPWARA, Apr 6: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan today chaired the meeting of the District Level Committee under Narco Coordination (NCORD) to review various measures put in place to curb drug abuse in the district.
Addressing the meeting, the DC impressed upon all the officers to make concerted efforts for eradicating the drug menace in the district. She directed them to closely check the poppy cultivation and destroy the same in their concerned areas.
She also directed for the constitution of Committees at Tehsil level, consisting of Tehsildar, BDO, officers from Forest department, Agriculture and other concerned for monitoring the cultivation/destruction of poppy in their respective jurisdictions.
The DC directed the CMO for gearing up the field functionaries for intensifying the identification of drug addicts for their recovery and proper rehabilitation. He was also directed to conduct mass awareness about the ill effects of drugs on human lives including installation of hoardings at prominent places.
Regarding CCTV coverage, the Ayushi asked the concerned officer to serve notice to the Medical Shop owners who have not yet installed the CCTV in their shops.
The DC also got feedback from the District Social Welfare Officer regarding the status of Nasha Mukt Portal.
On the occasion, Chief Medical Officer Kupwara briefed the chair about various measures taken by the Health department for curbing drug menace in the district. He said 1081 drug abuse cases were identified till ending March this year and 577 are undergoing treatment adding that 299 persons have also been recovered.
Earlier, a threadbare discussion was held in the meeting and various issues related to the incidence of drug addiction, hot spots of drug abuse, measures being taken in the district etc were taken for detailed deliberations.
