DC reviews FSSA implementation

JAMMU, Feb 27: Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma convened a meeting of officers and members of various trade organizations and reviewed the implementation of Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) in the district here today.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sushma Chauhan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shanker Sharma, Joint Controller LH Amar Singh, ACF (HQ) Sanjeev Kumar, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Manoj Prabhakar, Health Officer Vinod Sharma, Designated Officer S. R. Sharma, DHO Jammu Dr. Danish Khan, other senior officers of various departments besides members of various trade organization.
The meeting was conducted as a part of the regular review being conducted to take stock of the implementation of FSSA in the district.
During the meeting, the detailed review on various issues was undertaken regarding implementation of Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) in Jammu.
Deputy Commissioner asked the concerned officers for regular testing of imported food items and other eatables and to take stern action against those found indulging in adulteration. He directed for regularly collecting samples of food products, milk, imported food items, spices, manufactured by factories and industrial units to ensure quality food to the consumers.
He directed the Health Officer to conduct regular inspection to check the quality of eatables items besides cleanliness at various dhabas, hotels and kiosks and impose penalty on the violators under Food Safety Act.
It was suggested by members of various trade organization that food items imported in bulk should also be examined at Lakhanpur.
Deputy Commissioner also directed the concerned officers to check the exorbitant rate charged by the food outlets in the cinema halls.
Regarding the furniture shops, Mr. Verma gave direction for regular check on their selling prices. He reiterated that the shopkeepers using domestic cylinders at their business establishments would be dealt with severely.
