LEH, May 13: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Prasanna Ramaswamy G reviewed the physical and financial achievements of the annual action plan under BADP which is formulated at Rs 14.61 crore.
A meeting was held in this regard, which was attended by Councillors from border areas of Leh district, Superintending Engineer, PWD, senior district officers and engineers and BDOs.
Taking stock of each and every scheme going on in the places along the Indo-Pak and Indo-China border, the Deputy Commissioner strongly urged upon the executing agencies to complete all the works with special focus on important nature of works within the time frame ensuring maximum quality. These works included construction of roads, creation of infrastructure for newly sanctioned medical centres, community halls, water supply schemes, public gathering centre, up-gradation of distribution network for solar power plants, transmission lines, creation of fodder banks, vaccination and medicines for cattle, Green houses and many more.
DC also finalized the new schemes for different places under BADP in consultation with the concerned Councillors by earmarking funds for initiating each works.
Aimed at giving more emphases for Pashmina promotion in Changthang, DC suggested for holding quality trainings by engaging skilful trainers that would ensure quality products as well as good income generation for the locals. Under handicrafts sector, DC felt the need to introduce traditional painting in educational institutions starting from NRS Puga and Nyoma.
Looking for productive works under BADP in future, DC urged upon the concerned HoDs and the executing agencies to come up with constructive proposals with more preparations in consultation with the public representatives so that all the BADP works would become public-oriented.
The Councillors put forth valuable suggestions to make the BADP more rewarding for the people living in remote border places who are developmentally lacks in many fields. Some of them sought added funds for important schemes in their constituencies and urged to ensure fair distribution of BADP fund enabling to execute the most needed public works.
