SRINAGAR, June 5: The Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Muhammad Aijaz has taken a strong note of the statement issued by the Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan regarding the vaccines and has asked the Health & Medical Education Department to streamline the process of dissemination of COVID-I9 information to the public.
In a letter written by the DC, Srinagar to Financial Commissioner, Health & Medical Education Department, he has stated that that “is to bring to your kind notice that a statement attributed to Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan (so-called self-styled President DAK) has been published by various newspapers and news portal across the Union Territory of J&K on 02-06-2021, regarding COVID-19 vaccination…”
Reproducing a part of the statement issued by Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan which talks about the vaccination, DC stated that statement reads as: “If you are allergic to any component of the vaccine, you are advised not to take it. However, if you have a history of allergic reactions that aren’t related to COVID-19 vaccine such as food, medicine, latex, insects and environmental triggers, you can have the vaccine.”
The DC in the letter has said that the above statement is antithetical to the scientific evidence. “According to the fact sheet of COVISHIELD Vaccine issued by Serum Institute of India, the vaccine ingredients are: L-Histidine hydrochloride monohydrate. Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate. Polysorhate 80. Ethanol, Sucrose, Sodium Chloride. Disodium Edetate Dehydrate (EDTA), besides water for injection,” the letter read.
Further the fact sheet of vaccine from Bharat Biotech (COVAXIN), as per the letter, reveals that its ingredients are: Aluminium Hydroxide Gel. Imidazoquinoline. 2-Phenexyetonal and Phosphate Buffer Saline.
Aijaz said that these ingredients are often used in many other vaccines which are given in routine immunization of children and adults.
“So far 3323862 doses of Covid Vaccine have been administered in the Union Territory of J&K as of 01-06-2021 and no severe/adverse effects of its ingredients have been detected in 99.99% beneficiaries,” he said.
He said that the said statement has created apprehensions among general public about the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines. “Such kind of un-scientific, un-researched statements lead to erosion of faith in the medical science and dampen the efforts to vaccinate the targeted population.”
DC said that any scientific judgement in these matters should emanate only from the authorized persons/ sources having command over the subject.
“As such, it is requested to kindly issue directions to streamline the process of dissemination of COVID-I9 information to the public through authorized person/ sources only. Furthermore, it is also requested, a serious note should be taken against such un-authorized acts,” he said in a letter.
