LEH, Mar 5: Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Simrandeep Singh today started Gram Sabhas in the border villages in connection with the preparation of BADP plan for the year 2014-15.
In the first phase, Gram Sabhas were held in villages Dha, Beima and Hanu Yokma on the Indo-Pak border. The Gram Sabha started with the social audit of the BADP works of the previous years and response of the people was sought on each of the past works.
Later, people were made aware of the guidelines of BADP scheme and deliberations were held on the works to be taken up under the forthcoming year’s plan. Stress was laid on the works which are not permissible and the works which are permissible enabling people to conform to the guidelines while deciding on these works. The villagers stressed on mostly irrigation khuls, roads and community halls as the priority areas under the BADP.
The Leh District Administration in consultation with the PRIs and LAHDC have decided to hold Gram Sabhas in all villages at Indo-Pak and Indo-China border for preparing the BADP plan. As such Gram Sabhas are scheduled to be held in villages Turtuk, Thang, Tyakshi, Tongsted, Khemi in Nubra valley followed by Phobrang, Chushul, Maan-Pangong and Shayok in Durbuk on Indo- China border and lastly in the most sensitive Demchok, Chumur, Koyoul, Korzok and Anley in Nyoma block on Indo-China border.
The DC was accompanied by the Zahida Bano, ACD, Leh, BDO, Khaltsi, XEn, PWD, Khaltsi and District Coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghthan.
It is pertinent to mention here that BADP is a vital scheme of Department of Border management of Government of India and is intended to fill the infrastructural deficits of the border people. Currently, the scheme is being implemented in 17 States of India. The Planning Department of State Government has already directed all border districts of the State to prepare the BADP plan for the year 2014-15 and furnish the same by the end of April, 2014.
