UDHAMPUR, Dec 31: To combat drug menace and its associated challenges, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai on Tuesday convened a meeting of District Level Coordination Committee meeting of NCORD.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh; Additional SP Sandeep Bhat; Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Umesh Shan; Assistant Commissioner Development Dr. Ranjeet Singh Kotwal; Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anil Manhas and other district officers from the line departments.
Threadbare discussions were held on identification of individuals involved in illicit drug trafficking, details of cases registered under the NDPS Act, seizure of narcotics and related enforcement actions, organizing mass awareness programs, progress in declaring drug-free Panchayats, inspection and monitoring of drug de-addiction centers etc.
The DC emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to tackle drug abuse. She instructed all departments to intensify counseling services and Information, Education and Communication activities. The Principals of Government Degree Colleges were directed to organize regular awareness programs within their respective Clusters.
She called for stringent enforcement actions against perpetrators and protection of youth, especially students, from falling victim to drug abuse.
The Police Department was directed to submit a detailed report on the types of drugs seized and their locations to formulate an effective strategy for tracking and apprehending drug peddlers.
The DC stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among all line departments to disrupt drug supply chains.
