KARGIL, Dec 12: Executive body members of District Congress Committee, Kargil has expressed concern over the situation arisen due to blockade of Zojila Pass and the implications of Citizenship Amendment Bill.
During a meeting held here today the DCC members observed that due to relentless efforts by the Army, VIJAYAK, BRO and the local administration of Kargil district, particularly the District Magistrate /CEO LAHDC Kargil and SSP Kargil, the Zojila pass was opened for vehicular traffic and vehicles from Kargil to Srinagar were allowed to move and hundreds of passengers could go to Srinagar and Jammu on December 8, 2019.
It was also observed that hundreds of light and heavy vehicles with passengers and perishable items, bound for Kargil are still stranded in Gangangeer and Sonamarg areas. Zojila Pass was open on Dec 9 and 10 and the weather was favourable and the vehicles from Sonamarg to Kargil could have allowed moving towards Kargil. But unfortunately due to reluctance shown by the Ganderbal Administration particularly by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal, hundreds of vehicles are still stranded in Kangan and Gagangeer areas.
DCC appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, RK Mathur Union Territory Ladakh, Chairman/CEC LAHDC Leh and Chairman/CEC LAHDC Kargil to ensure opening of Zojila Pass at the earliest once again, in the interest of the stranded passengers and the general public of Kargil and Leh districts as soon as possible.
It was also observed that the drivers and conductors of the stranded vehicles were manhandled and physically assaulted by the police personnel of Ganderbal district and strongly condemned brutal action of the Policemen.
District Congress Committee, Kargil also condemned the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill by the BJP and its allies in the two Houses of the Parliament. The District Congress Committee Kargil termed it undemocratic and the darkest day in the history of India and a direct attack on the preamble of the Constitution of India.
