JAMMU, Oct 10: Directorate of Distance & Online Education (DD&OE), University of Jammu, today organized an extensive Book Exhibition to promote and reinforce the habit of book reading among the students and academic community.
The exhibition showcased books of reputed national publishers and covered genres covering textbooks, fiction, non-fiction, general readings and volumes on art, history, culture, communication, personality development, behaviour etc.
The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Prof Rahul Gupta, Registrar, JU; Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, DD& OE and Dr Vikram Sahi, Incharge Librarian, Dhanvantri Library, JU.
Prof Rahul Gupta, Registrar, in his address, highlighted the need to promote a culture of reading among the students so as to strengthen the prospects of life-long learning. He also appreciated the Directorate for its several initiatives in the immediate past to integrate its students with the larger University community.
In her presiding remarks, Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, DD & OE, deliberated on the importance of book reading for an individual’s professional as well as personal growth. She also emphasized on the role of healthy reading habits in developing vocabulary, communication skills and overall personality of the readers. She further stressed on the need to balance the trends of reading online to that of reading on paper for experiencing learning through different platforms.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Vikram Sahi, in his address, lauded the efforts of the Directorate for organizing the book exhibition. He assured all support to the Directorate for its envisioned digitalization of library resources as well as facilitating remote access of the e-resources for all distance and online learners.
Prof Sandeep Kour Tandon, the Convenor of the Book Exhibition, coordinated the event along with Rakesh Kumar, Deputy Librarian DD&OE. The faculty and staff of the Directorate enthusiastically organized the exhibition. The exhibitors of the books included publishers from different states in India and also from UT of J&K. The exhibition was well attended by the faculty, officers, non-teaching staff, research scholars and the students of the University in large numbers.
