JAMMU, July 26: District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Kishtwar Puja Thakur today staged dharna in Kishtwar town in protest against no increase in wages to the youth working in various power projects and delay in pending land compensation cases.
“I am elected representative of the people of district Kishtwar. People have lot of hopes on me. I have knocked doors of administration and project companies several times. But neither the administration nor the power project companies are concerned,” Thakur said while taking extreme step of herself staging dharna.
She said no district is having such projects in Jammu and Kashmir like Kishtwar which has capacity of absorbing around 10000 youths in these projects. However, she regretted, nothing is happening on the ground.
“Everyday I meet 20 to 30 deputations from all parts of Kishtwar like Dachhan, Padder, Nagseni, Chatroo, Bunjwah, Palmar, Marwah, Warwan etc for absorption of youths in power projects. Those who have been absorbed are getting meagre salary,” Thakur said.
She lamented that people are not being paid due compensation for the land acquired from them.
The DDC Chairperson hoped that the administration will act on the issues raised by her.
