DDC chairs District Consumer Protection Council’s meeting

JAMMU, Sept 7 District Development Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, today chaired a meeting of District Consumer Protection Council which was attended by Commissioner JMC, Kuldeep Khajuria, IAS ProbationerGirish,  Joint Controller Legal Metrology, Mr. Amar Singh, Chief Health Officer, Vinod Sharma, Deputy Director Information (PR), Jammu, Mrs Jyoti Rani Slathia, SP (HQ), Shalinder Singh, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology, Manoj Prabhakar, Assistant Director CAPD, Dev Raj, Assistant Controller Food, Sanjeev Kumar and President ACTF, Yash Pal Gupta.
The objective of the meeting was to review the services being provided to the consumers by the council besides working out strategies for streamlining its functioning.
The meeting deliberated upon various vital issues related to welfare and convenience of the consumers which included display of rates by commercial establishments on locally manufactured products, use of domestic gas in commercial establishments, uncontrolled prices of unpacked products, overcharging, implementation of Food Safety Act, rates of unpacked/packed products in multiplexes/cinema theatres.
The DDC asked the concerned organizations to conduct survey in markets to check overcharging on domestic items, eatables, furniture etc and keep strict vigil on those who are indulging in profiteering and black marketing besides ensuring standardization of rates.
The DDC asked the enforcement wings to take concrete steps so that public interests could be protected. He also directed the officers to launch drives to check rates of eatables in multiplexes and take strict action against those involved in overcharging.
The DDC asked the concerned to keep a check on quality and rates of various items in restaurants and send the samples to accredited laboratories to check the quality of eatables.
Besides, the enforcement wing of Tourism Department was directed to check the rates of lodges particularly near bus stand, railway station so that the visiting tourists are not exploited due to overcharging.
He appealed the consumers to cooperate with concerned agencies and report to Commercial Tax Department, CAPD and Legal Metrology authorities in case of any irregularity in this regard so that appropriate action be initiated against the defaulter.
