DDC constitutes Border Development Committees

KATHUA, Mar 29: District Development Commissioner, Kathua, convened a meeting of Sarpanchs, Panchs, Lumberdars, Chowkidars and development teams at forward border post of Chandwan in Hiranagar sub-division to assess and review various developmental works and security scenario.
In an attempt to address the developmental needs of the border residents the District Administration has constituted the Border Development Committees for each village under the supervision of SDM Hiranagar. There are 22 villages along International Border and overall 57 villages in range of 5 kilometers from  border. Administration has already launched project “Hidayat”for skill development in border areas and 10 courses launched under the project.
The BDCs are entrusted with identifying works under BADP, TSP, SCSP, District Plan, CSS and State Plan for which all the departments have been directed to ensure that plans are formulated with consultation of village committees and gram panchayat is also held for the matter.
The DDC informed that Rs 60 lakhs have been released for works identified by BDCs in March, Rs 80 lakhs for construction of toilets, Rs 20 lakhs for skill development and Rs 13 lakh for construction of PHC. He called upon the border residents to prioritize needs of developmental works which will be taken up by district administration. He further informed that recently 75 youth have been selected for driving course, 50 women for cutting tailoring course, 25 for ITI, 12 for computer course, 60 for poultry development, 30 for animal husbandry and similarly for other courses and identification of beneficiaries was done through BDCs
The DDC called upon the border residents to be eyes and ears of district administration to ensure strengthening security scenario along border and tackling infiltration bids from across the border, adding that, border residents are the largest and most strong border guarding force and administration will leave no stone unturned to develop border villages. Later, the DDC visited the fence and inspected the cross loss reported by Revenue officials.
Asstt Commissioner Development, Tilak Raj, SDM Hiranagar Sohan Lal, District Panchayat Officer Anil Kumar, Tehsildar Hiranagar, BDO Hiranagar, BDO Marheen, officers of CRPF and various departments were present in the meeting.
