KATHUA, July 19: District Development Commissioner Ramesh Kumar today chaired a meeting to review the power scenario in the district.
Issues related to availability of power supply, voltage drop, unscheduled power cuts besides power pilferage were discussed in detail with the officers of PDD.
The DDC constituted a dedicated Vigilance & Monitoring Committee for inspection which will comprise of Magistrate, Police Officer and PDD officers along with field staff to conduct drives against the illegal connections. The drive will be a regular affair which aims to keep a check on un-registered electricity connections resulting overload and loss to State exchequer.
The meeting also identified the vulnerable areas reported with maximum gap between consumption of power and revenue in turn. He called for starting the drives from vulnerable areas to other areas across the district.
During the meeting, the district administration devised out a daily reporting mechanism under which AEEs have to update the data of such drives on daily basis. The data will reflect disconnections, new connections, collections and other information related to the drive.
While talking tough on power theft, DDC directed the officers to fix the responsibility upon the team comprising AEE, JE and lineman concerned in wake of any un-registered connection/ reconnection after the drive. He called for proper monitoring and tracking of different types of irregularities/cases like direct tapping, additional load usage, non-sanction utilization of load, running under disconnection, tampered meter etc to check the menace of power theft.
