DDC inaugurates historic Dera Top Mela

UDHAMPUR, Aug 5: District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar in presence of SSP Rayees Ahmed Bhat today inaugurated one day historic Dera Top Mela at a remote area in Tehsil Chenani.
The day witnessed participation of large number of devotees amid religious fervor and gaiety.
Different Government departments had put up stalls to make visitors aware about their respective schemes aimed at promotion of rural economy including agriculture and allied sectors, besides bringing about social reforms.
Greeting the people on the occasion, the DDC said that such Melas not only fulfill religious aspirations but also provide an opportunity to the people of different walks of life to interact with each other and share their experiences and joys. He said such traditional occasions are playing a pivotal role in maintaining brotherhood, peace and prosperity.
The DDC called upon the officers to make sincere and dedicated efforts to generate awareness about different central sponsored schemes like ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ Swachh Bharat Mission, ICPS etc and motivate general public to come forward to avail the benefits of these schemes.
Thousands of people attired in traditional and colorful dresses thronged the Mela venue to offer prayers and to get the blessings of their revered deity.
A colourful cultural programe featuring Dogra dance and music was presented by the local folk artists which was highly applauded by the people.
