DDC initiates action against ultrasound clinics

UDHAMPUR, Sept 25: District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, PK Pole, under a comprehensive campaign, has initiated legal action against different ultrasound clinics operating in the district for violating various provisions under Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act.
District Development Commissioner while chairing a meeting of members of Advisory Committee held to review the implementation of PC&PNDT Act issued directions for one week suspension of work of Trikuta Ultrasound Clinic Udhampur while as Manisha Ultrasound Clinic Udhampur was also ordered to keep its work suspended for one day for not maintaining proper records in the clinics as per the norms of the Act.
In addition, a strict written warning has also been served upon Sarv Sidhi Ultrasound Clinic Udhampur for not maintaining proper record of the clinic under the provision of the Act.
The District Magistrate also reminded the members of the advisory committee that henceforth no radiologist is allowed to work in not more than two ultrasound clinics. It was also decided that the Chief Medical Officer would provide block wise ultrasound diagnostic reports furnished by the different clinics with effect from January 2012 to April 2012 to the concerned Block Medical Officers to keep a watch on the pregnancy outcome of the diagnosed patients in their respective jurisdictions through ASHAs and other field functionaries.
Later, expressing concern over the poor performance of ASHA workers especially in block Majalta and Basantgarh during a separate meeting convened to review the functioning of District Health Society, Pole directed the concerned Block Medical Officers to terminate non performing ASHAs and to engage new ASHAs in their place within a week’s time.
Other issues including construction programme under health sector and physical and financial achievement of the District Health Society were also reviewed thread barely.
Among others, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Anil Amla, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Santosh, Executive Engineers of PWD & PHE, members of Advisory Committee on PC&PNDT Act and BMOs were present in the meeting.
