KALAKOTE, June 23: Members of District Development Council of Kalakote, Dhangri and Mougla raised serious concern over the damages caused due to flash flood in the Pir Panjal area due to incessant monsoon rains, urging the administration to undertake immediate restoration of infrastructure.
In a joint statement issued here today, DDC Dhangri, Th Rameshwar Singh, DDC Kalakote, Anita Thakur and DDC Moughla, Shamim Akhter said the recent rains have hugely damaged the standing crops as well as the livestock of tribal and nomad Gujjar due to which they have suffered immense loss and damages. They said that the rains have caused havoc in various places and taken a toll of precious lives due to landslides.
The DDC members also expressed grief over loss of lives due to the incessant rains and flash floods across the state. They said due to heavy rain and flash floods a number of residential houses of tribals as well as nomadic Gujjars have also been damaged.
They stressed upon the J&K administration to come to the rescue of rain or flash flood affected families across the UT and provide them all help including monetary compensation, living shelters and food items.
They urged the concerned Government agencies to immediately provide relief in terms of free rations and financial assistance till a survey is conducted to ascertain the actual loss. He also sought deputation of an empowered team of revenue and agriculture officers to carry out the survey at ground zero, saying the recent hailstorm too has created havoc with the farm produce.
Th Yashu Vardhan Singh, additional spokesperson and Incharge Kalakote Constituency, National Conference, also expressed grief over loss of livestock besides damages of residential houses of people across Sunderbani and Kalakote constituency due to inclement weather.
Expressing solidarity with the rain sufferers, Vardhan reminded the administration of its obligations towards the people and urged them to come forward with a package for them. He also sought restoration of the utility services especially power, drinking water and roads.
