UDHAMPUR, Feb 3: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is going to witness unprecedented development in the time to come and the District Development Councilors (DDC) will play a pivotal role in this journey, former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Kavinder Gupta said on Wednesday while chairing a meeting of DDC members at Udhampur today.
“The establishment of three-tier system of the Panchayati Raj Institutions under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has been the watershed moment for grassroots democracy in Jammu and Kashmir leading the way for unprecedented development in the Union Territory,” Kavinder said.
Jammu and Kashmir has boarded the train of development and in the near future, the impact will be felt in every nook and corner of the UT, he added.
He urged the DDC members to play the significant role given to them by the public with utmost sincerity.
“The constitution of DDCs has not only strengthened grassroots democracy in the Union Territory but also put the power back with the people. People have chosen you as their representatives and it must be ensured that you play a pivotal role in this journey of development and progress,” Gupta said.
Gupta said that successive previous governments did nothing for the welfare of common masses in Jammu and Kashmir. “The successive governments in the past have exploited the common masses, conveniently ignoring the genuine issues faced by them. The previous dynastic rulers misused the funds given by Centre for the development of Jammu and Kashmir to fill their own coffers. They did not pay attention to the public and their issues, couldn’t achieve anything on the ground level in all these years,” Kavinder said.
“After Narendra Modi Government came to power, it has put the common masses at the centre of its governance agenda. Ever since the abrogation of Article 370, the BJP’s welfare schemes for every section of the society has finally reached the people of J&K. People are finally reaping the real benefits of Central sponsored schemes,” he added.
Prominet among those who were present in the meeting include Ex MoS Shakti Parihar, Jeevan Sharma, Vipan Sharma, Puran Chand, Kuldeep Singh, Lal Chand, Puran Chand, Amit Sharma etc.
