RAJOURI, Mar 7: District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal today chaired a meeting of the concerned officers to review the efforts being put in place for the effective management of the solid waste in the district.
Officers present in the meeting included CPO, Mohammad Khurshid; Divisional Officer PCB, ExEn PWD Rajouri, Maqbool Hussain and EO municipalities.
The meeting was informed 10 kanals of land at Thannamandi, 5 kanals at Nowshera, 40 kanal at Kalakote and 52 kanal at Rajouri stands identified for the establishment of Solid Waste Management Plants, while a solid waste management plant at Sunderbani is already functional.
Regarding the progress on Material Recovery Facilities being established in Rajouri town, the concerned apprised that 3 MRFs were approved out of which the work on two was in progress at Bela colony and Salani, while the land for the third MRF is yet to be identified. Similarly, MRFs are also being established in all other municipalities of the district.
The DDC directed for generating mass awareness about the ill effects of banned plastic on health and environment and to motivate people to use eco-friendly alternatives of polythene.
Highlighting various NGT guidelines on solid waste management, he asked the concerned officers to ensure that the same are implemented in letter and spirit across the district.
The DDC also asked for making consistent efforts for effective Waste Management and making the protection and preservation of the environment an integral part of the development plans.
