DDC reviews availability of essentials in snow, rain hit Marwah belt

KISHTWAR, Mar 15: To have on-the-spot assessment of the  situation on ground after the spell of incessant rains and heavy snowfall in the remote Marwah valley of district  and to ensure adequate stock of essential commodities,  District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, Ghulam Nabi Balwan flew-in to Marwah this morning.
Immediately upon his arrival, DDC chaired a meeting of Sub-Divisional Officers to review the measures put in place for road and path clearance operations, availability of stock and supply position of essential commodities, functioning of health institutions, status of the Marwah-Margantop-Kishtwar road and the plying of traffic on it.
He directed the officials of PWD (R&B) and PMGSY division Marwah to ensure the clearance of road connecting the main district headquarter in a time bound manner and also reviewed the work done to restore essential services and mitigate difficulties faced by the people in the wake of recent snowfall in the Valley.
He also ascertained the preparedness of the administration to face any future eventuality due to rains and heavy snowfall.
He directed SDM Marwah to be prompt and responsive to the requirements of people on all counts and said that the road clearance and restoration of important public services that have been affected by the heavy snowfall should be first concern of the government officials.
The DDC further directed the officers to keep a close vigil on the hoarders, black-marketers and unscrupulous elements who take advantage of the situation for selling the goods on high price and creating false propaganda of scarcity of essentials and curb such menace to avoid public hue and cry.  He further directed the SDM to make sure that sufficient quantity of essentials and fuel is available in the region.  He also paid visit to various offices and inspected their functioning.
District Development Commissioner also convened a public grievances redressal camp there in which he held an interactive session with the locals to take first hand appraisal of the problems and demands of the people and also to make them aware about various provisions of welfare schemes so that they can avail maximum benefits.
