JAMMU, June 4: A meeting of City Advisory Board of Childline, Jammu was convened here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Ajit Kumar Sahu to review the functioning of Childline in Jammu.
Childline is a project of Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, which helps in minimizing the sufferings of children in distress for which City Advisory Board has also been constituted to review and take stock of its working.
A detailed report about the activities and functioning of Childline in reaching, rescuing and rehabilitating needy children was presented on the occasion.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress achieved so far on decisions taken during the previous meeting. He was apprised of the action taken report on various vital issues which mainly included organizing massive awareness programmes, establishment of independent children homes, monitoring of shelter homes and others.
The meeting also held thorough deliberation on Action Plan for 2013-14 and other vital issues including construction of shelter home for children who need care and protection, extension of Childline activities in educational institutions at district level along with Red Cross activities, rehabilitation of rag pickers/beggars on pilot project basis, admission of children in different homes, health awareness cum check up cum treatment camps for poor children especially slum children, orientation/workshop for team of Childline, flute boards and copy panels and stickers to be displayed in buses/trucks/matadors etc, installation of Childline hoardings in educational institutions, railway station, bus stand and other prominent places.
Asserting that desired results could only be achieved if the schemes are implemented in true spirit, Sahu sought coordination between various organizations and people who can help in big way in achieving every objective of Childline. He emphasised on massive awareness at all levels for which various concerned Government agencies, NGOs and others have to put in extra efforts for minimizing the sufferings of children in distress.
On the occasion, participants gave certain valuable suggestions for further improving the functioning of Childline, Jammu.
