DDC visits border villages, inspects development works

KATHUA, Aug 7:  District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Zahida Parveen Khan today visited Rathua village and adjoining border areas in Kathua to take stock of people’s grievances besides inspecting the ongoing development works.
ADDC, Kathua Ajay Singh Jamwal, Tehsildar Hiranagar and other senior officers accompanied the DDC.
During the interaction with DDC, the people of village Rathua informed her about their problems due to frequent shelling from other side of the border demanding some concrete efforts from the Government to ensure security to their lives and property.
They further demanded compensation for their agriculture land acquired by Army for fencing on the border and adequate public transport facilities to the zero line. They also told the DDC that many of people of village have lost most of their agriculture land in fencing and ditch-cum- bund for which no compensation has been provided till date.
The DDC directed the Tehsildar Hiranagar to identify the number of families living on zero line villages so that their cases could be projected for rehabilitation. She further directed Tehsildar to complete the work of demarcation of land falling in between fencing and international border so that paper could be submitted to BSF for grant of compensation.
Regarding the demand of public transport for zero line villages, the DDC passed directions on phone to RTO, Kathua to convene a meeting with local public representatives and people of transport union to facilitate people with public transport facilities.
Later, Zahida Khan along with public representatives had a meeting with DIG, BSF Narinder Jamwal.  She discussed with him the matter of security cover to the farmers for cultivation of their land and also to the revenue officials during the demarcation work along the border.
