JAMMU, Nov 22: The death anniversary of Gen Bikram Singh was observed by General Bikram Singh Yaadgar Committee at Bikram Chowk near main Tawi bridge here today.
As per past practice, the Committee organized a function at Bikram Chowk, Jammu to observe 57th death anniversary of Gen Bikram Singh with enthusiasm and great patriotic spirit.
The speakers including Charanjeet Singh, president and Gajan Singh, general secretary while addressing gathering after paying floral tributes to Gen Bikram Singh at his statue, said that Gen Bikram Singh was a renowned personality of Indian Army who died in an air crash on Nov 22, 1963 in Poonch sector while on secret mission. He was accompanied by four other Generals namely- Lt Gen Daulat Singh, Air Marshal EW Pinto, Maj Gen KDN Nanavati and Brig SR Oberoi with Flight Lieut SS Sodhi.
Gajan Singh in his address said that Gen Bikram Singh was a dedicated officer who used to visit the Army canteens to check the quality of the food being served to the Army personnel, as he was of the opinion that if the soldiers are strong and healthy, the nation will be strong and healthy. He further said that Gen Bikram Singh rendered his services to the nation till his death.
Gajan Singh said Gen Bikram Singh managed to throw the important files related to the vital defence issues, out of the plane at the time of Air-crash to prevent vital information of the country from any damage.
In his concluding remarks Charanjeet Singh Raina, president of the Committee thanked the guests and others.
Ved Gandotra, chairman Freedom Fighters Association, J&K was the chief guest on the occasion. He also threw light on the life and services of Gen Bikram Singh.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting included, Lalita Mahajan Ex-Councillor JMC, Sukhmohinder Singh (vice president Akali Dal),Susheel Sharma, Prahlad Singh, Rajinder Singh, Parbhat Kapahi, Surinder Singh and Dr Prem Sharma.
