Debates develop sense of judgment, inculcate critical thinking: DC Kargil

KARGIL, Nov 23: Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary today said that holding of debates on relevant social issues and themes can go a long way in developing sense of judgment among youngsters and can help a great deal in inculcating in them essential critical-thinking and presentation skills.
The DC stated this while addressing students during the Shaheed Syed Muhammad Hussain Beheshti Memorial Inter School Debate Competition 2019 at Jaffaria Academy of Modern Education (JAME) Higher Wing Kurbathang Kargil where he was the chief guest.
President Anjuman-e-Jamiat-ul Ulama Isna Ashria-Islamia School Kargil (ISK) Sheikh Nazir-ul-Mehdi Muhammadi, general secretary ISK Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim Khalili, general secretary JAME Kargil Iftikhar Hussain, members of the Board of Management besides staff and students were present on the occasion.
The DC said that debates nurture rational thinking, citizenship manners, organization of thoughts, persuasion and public speaking and can inspire students to be deep thinkers.
While underlining the importance of healthy balance between studies and co-curricular activities for the overall personality development, the DC exhorted upon the students to work hard to pursue their career goals while also imbibing the values of obedience to teachers, parents and elders.
He also urged students to strive hard to be good human beings and contribute towards strengthening the age old ethos of communal harmony, peaceful co-existence, loyalty and sincerity for which Kargil is known far and wide.
President Anjuman-e-Jamiat-ul Ulama Isna Ashria-Islamia School Kargil (ISK) Kargil Sheikh Nazir ul Mehdi and General Secretary JAME Iftikhar Hussain also spoke on the contribution of Islamic cleric and scholar Shaheed Syed Muhammad Hussain Beheshti.
More than 20 students from different schools participated in the debate competitions which were based on the themes Nanotechnology- A blessing or a curse and Smart Phones and Children- Friend or Enemy.
The debate competition was adjudicated by the jury comprising of District Panchayat Officer Kargil Shabir Hussain, Head Department of Zoology Degree College Kargil Dr Javed Naqi, District Informatics Officer Kargil Iftikhar Hussain and Assistant Director Information Kargil Muhammad Ali Tak.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by student JAME Fatima Zehra.
Later, the DC gave away prizes and mementoes to the participating students and jury members.
