Srinagar, Oct 2: Pradesh Congress Committee president, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, today said that the decision for formation of stable local Government in Kargil was taken by our leaders locally and “we appreciated it”.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of celebration of Gandhi Jayanti at party headquarters here, the Congress president said that the everyone in Kargil wanted that house should be formed after no party had numbers in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil elections.
“We have not contested the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil elections in alliance with anyone. Everyone wanted that a stable house should be made there but nobody was able to form the numbers. NC was the single largest party that won elections there. They locally approached our party there for formation of stable house and we appreciated the step taken by our people there for the betterment of Kargil”, he said.
Mir said that Congress party took into consideration everything before contesting the Panchayat and Municipal polls. “We questioned here that if major parties can contest elections in Kargil then why not here. But it is their own decision. Congress party has taken everything into consideration and decided to contest elections”, he said.
The Congress president said that if all the parties would have taken part in elections no body would have been elected unopposed in the Municipal polls being held here. “Unopposed is not a new thing in the elections. This is not the assembly elections for 40 seats only, it is for more than 600 seats across the State and if every party would have contested elections, there would have been no scope for the uncontested elections. But major parties have boycotted the elections. That is why many candidates were able to win unopposed”, he said.
Mir said that it the responsibly his party in the country to spread Gandhian philosophy as without naming saffron party he said “they have the views of his killers”.
”The country has been divided into two sections. Those, who are the followers of Mahatma Gandhi and those who are of the view of Gandhiji’s killers. So, it is the job of Indian National Congress to tell the people the view of Mahatma Gandhi”, he said.
