Srinagar, Oct 11: The decision of Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to reduce kerosene oil supply to Kashmir has drawn flak from the kerosene dealers of Valley.
In a statement issued here, the Kashmir valley Wholesale Kerosene Oil Dealers Union said that the Ministry has reduced the quota of kerosene by 41 percent between years 2014 to 2016 without considering the severe cold temperature of the region.
“While the Kashmir valley received 61 lakh litres during the winter of 2012-2013, it was reduced to 51 lakh litres in the winter of 2014. Again it was reduced to 41 lakh litres in the winter of 2015. And, shockingly instead of increasing it on our request and the recommendations of the State Government, the Ministry has further reduced it to a paltry 28 lakh litres,” said the Union.
The statement said that the Government of India has gradually decreased the kerosene oil quota since 2012-13 and now only 2.5 litres would be given to each ration card/household in the Kashmir valley where winter is approaching.
“This decision not only puts general public in maximum constraints but deprives the people associated with this trade of their livelihood,” the Union said and sought review of the Union Ministry’s decision.
