JAMMU, Nov 25: BJP spokesman, Balbir Ram Rattan today said the decision of the Union Cabinet to extend distribution of five kilogram free food grains per month to per family till March next year under Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) reflects the concern of Narendra Modi Government for the poor people of the country.
In a statement issued here, today he said it is indeed one of the great steps in series of various programmes and policies of the Union Government, which has, during the last seven years, taken one decision after the other, with the sole motive of taking care of every Indian citizen.
Balbir Ram Rattan, while terming the extension of the period of providing free food grains till March 2022 to over 80 crore ration card holders in the country as principle line of the Government under the Prime Ministership of Narendra Modi, which is following “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas, Sabka Vishwas” and focusing on survival of the last man in the queue.
The BJP spokesperson said that the Government had started PMGKAY scheme in March last year to provide relief to the people as the COVID pandemic had badly affected the poor people in particular, who were left jobless or their own means of livelihood suffered badly. The Government realized the need to help such people and as a result over 80 crore of them have been getting benefit of this scheme every month since then. The phase-IV of the scheme, which is in operation and going to lapse soon, will continue for few more months.
Meanwhile, Balbir Ram appreciated the robust mechanism followed by local administration of J&K UT with the help of political and social organizations to ensure the benefits to intended needy population. He also said that the free of cost food grains under the scheme has successfully countered the ill effects of COVID hardships faced by the poorest of the poor, stressing that the move has established Modi Government as poor-friendly.
