Decline in drug peddling cases in Baramulla: Police

SRINAGAR, Oct 1: Police in Baramulla declared today that their campaign against drug peddling in the district has achieved significant success, leading to a notable reduction in registered cases in recent months.
In a statement issued, the police reported that as of September 30, they have filed 231 cases under the NDPS Act, resulting in the apprehension of 403 drug peddlers.
Among these individuals, 62 are considered hard-core drug peddlers and have been charged under the PIT NDPS PSA. Furthermore, properties owned by drug peddlers, valued in crores, have been seized and attached.
The police have also successfully confiscated substantial amounts of contraband valued in crores on the black market. Additionally, they have seized properties of drug peddlers worth Rs 2.1 crores, comprising three houses, three vehicles, and cash totaling Rs.1.2 crores.
The statement emphasized, “The concerted efforts of the police have yielded a significant reduction in drug peddling cases.”
During the first half of the year, from January to June, the police noted an increase in cases, with numbers surging from 10 to 40 cases in April alone. However, this trend, police said, has reversed since July, with 18 cases registered in July, followed by 15 in August, and another 18 cases in September.
