Delay in filling up adm positions affects functioning of KU

Srinagar, Aug 17: The delay by Kashmir University in filling up numerous administrative positions, which were advertised over 6 months ago, is impacting the overall operation of the Valley’s premier educational institution.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the University’s failure to initiate the interview process has resulted in numerous departments being left headless. As a consequence, certain staff members have been burdened with additional responsibilities to oversee these departments, severely undermining their effectiveness.
After languishing vacant for an extended period, the university advertised these crucial positions in January of this year. However, the delay in conducting interviews has not only disrupted the recruitment process but has also raised doubts about its credibility. “The delay not only raises questions about the recruitment process but also the competency of the administration,” a senior professor said.
Numerous crucial positions remain unfilled as a consequence of the deferred interviews. These include the roles of Registrar at the Main Campus, Director at the North Campus, Director of Physical Education and Sports, Director of IT and Student Services, Director of the Institute of Technology in Zakura, and Librarian of Allama Iqbal Library.
Furthermore, there are vacancies for three Deputy Registrars/Deputy Controllers of Examinations, five Deputy Librarians of Allama Iqbal Library, and a Deputy Director of the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports that are yet to be occupied due to the postponed interview processes.
An official has alleged that staff members who have been bestowed with added authorities for these departments are intentionally prolonging the process for their personal gains. “The positions were advertised by the governor’s administration to curtail favouritism within the university. However, the official apathy has thwarted the purpose of this initiative,” the official lamented.
In the meantime, there are numerous other positions, including Director of EMRC, Director of the Convocation Complex, Director of the State Resource Centre, Director of South Campus, and Director of Kupwara Campus, that are yet to be advertised. This absence of necessary personnel is further compounding the challenges faced by these respective departments.
The Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, Nelofar Khan, told Excelsior that the interviews would commence by the end of this week in a phased manner. “We will initiate the interview process for the Deputy Director position starting on Saturday, followed by interviews for other positions,” she said.
