JAMMU, Aug 25: A delegation of Dogra Sadar Sabha members and prominent citizens appraised the Divisional Commissioner Jammu about concerns of Jammu citizens regarding safeguarding of Dogra heritage.
In a handout Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, ex-Vice Chairman of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society (MMHS) and president Dogra Sadar Sabha said the Divisional Commissioner was appraised that conversion of Mubarak Mandi into a Hotel would not be in the interest of promoting heritage tourism in Jammu.
He said, the delegation appraised that Comprehensive Conservation and Reuse Plan which was based on collective knowledge and inputs after deliberations of prominent citizens and experts since the inception of MMHS needs to be implemented as it aims to make the heritage complex a world class heritage tourism attraction.
Charak said that they emphasized that the proposed knowledge areas, museums and galleries in the ancient structures, especially lifestyle galleries in the Rani Palaces depicting diverse cultures and lifestyles of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh etc will attract foreign tourists in large numbers placing Jammu on international heritage tourism map.
He claimed that heritage hotel, on the other hand, will only benefit a few rich and will be out of bounds for the common man and ordinary tourists at the cost of defacing the oldest and unique heritage of Rani Mahals.
The Divisional Commissioner assured the delegation that their concerns will be put before the governing body for consideration.

Kulbir Singh, Amanat Ali Shah, Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Janak Khajuria, Chhankar Singh, Dharam Chand, Shubham, Sukh Dev Singh, Sat Pal, Vijay Singh, Madan Bhagat, Dr. V.S Sharma and others.
