JAMMU, Nov 27: A Delhi based Advocate from Jammu, Sahil Tagotra, was awarded Gold Medal by Chief Justice of India (CJI), Dipak Mishra, for having topped the prestigious Advocate-on-Record examination conducted by the Supreme Court.
Advocate Sahil Tagotra was awarded during Constitution Day function on Sunday. The chief guest at the function was Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Minister for Law, Justice and Information Technology. The function was also presided over by the Attorney General for India, KK Venugopal, and attended by sitting and retired judges of the Supreme Court and senior advocates.
With this phenomenal feat, Tagotra has become one of the few Advocates-on-Record of the Supreme Court of India from J&K. This assumes significance because the Supreme Court Rules only permit a qualified Advocate-on-Record (AOR), and none other, to file a case in the highest court of the country.
In their speeches, the Chief Justice and the Attorney General addressed the issues of pendency in the courts and how advocates and judges can play a critical role in ensuring quick disposal of cases.
