RAMBAN, Apr 7: Residents of Dalwass and adjoining areas here today staged a protest demonstration demanding a crossing on the four-lane National Highway (NH) 44 to a link road connecting Sawani, Papriya and scores of other villages.
The protesters raised slogans against the construction company DMR and Project Director National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), PIU Ramban.
The contractor company DMR was engaged by NHAI to construct a viaduct to bypass landslide prone Dalwass road stretch of the NH, the work of which is nearing completion.
Locals have apprehensions that once this 4-lane viaduct is completed there will be no other option left except to reach Nashri Chowk to take u-turn to reach Dalwass link road which is too far away and is time consuming.
The protesters also stopped 4-lane viaduct work at Dalwass and said that they will not allow the construction work to resume until the crossing for the link road is provided.
Project Director NHAI, Project Installation Unit (PIU) Ramban, Purshoutam Kumar said that there is provision in the Drawing Project Report of providing a crossing for the link road at Dalwass.
Meanwhile Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Varunjeet Singh along with other officers reached Dalwass and assured the protesters that the matter will be resolved soon.
Earlier BJP leader Rakesh Thakur and Congress leader Feroz Khan also met with the protesting people and assured them to take the issue to the concerned authorities.
