Dengue claims 8th life, 44 new cases

JAMMU, Nov 16: The dengue fever has claimed one more life whereas 44 fresh cases of the vector-borne disease were reported today from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of positive cases so far this year to 5989 and the number of deaths to 8.
“A 17-year-old girl belonging to Bhour Camp (Jammu) was admitted in a Government Hospital in Jammu City on November 13. The patient was reportedly suffering from dengue fever (with brain stem dysfunctional, secondary to benfue encephalopathy). She breathed her last at about 4:40 pm on November 14 in the Hospital,” a Health official said, adding, with this, the number of deaths due to the vector-borne disease so far this year has reached to 8.
The official further informed that 418 people were screened today for dengue out of which 44 turned out to be positive. Of the 44 positive cases, 17 cases were reported from Jammu district while 11 cases each were registered in Udhampur and Kathua districts, 3 from Doda, 1 from Kishtwar and 1 from outside J&K. The positive patients include 35 adults and 9 children, he added.
He said maximum 3815 cases reported so far are from Jammu district followed by Udhampur district with 879 cases, Kathua 541 cases and Samba 349 cases. “There were 97 cases in Rajouri, 66 in Reasi, 65 in Doda, 62 in Ramban, 36 in Poonch, 9 in Kishtwar, 26 in Kashmir and 40 from other parts of the country,” the official said.
The official further informed that a total of 1907 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals till date and of these, 1764 have been discharged and 65 patients are still under treatment.
