Dengue claims one more life, toll reaches 6

JAMMU, Oct 27: The dengue fever has claimed one more life while as 83 fresh cases of the vector-borne disease were reported today from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of positive cases so far this year to 4636 and the number of deaths to 6.
A Health official said that a 25-year-old lady from Udhamnagar (Digiana, Jammu) with dengue fever was admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu on October 15. The patient was diagnosed as suffering from pyrexia with thrombocytopenia, MODS and serositis, and she breathed her last yesterday at about 11 pm in the Hospital. With this, the number of deaths due to the vector-borne disease so far this year has reached to 6.
The official further informed that 469 people were screened today for dengue out of which 83 turned out to be positive. Of the 83 positive cases, 37 cases were reported from Jammu district while 23 cases were detected in Udhampur, 13 from Samba, 6 from Kathua, 2 from Doda, 1 from Ramban and 1 case from outside J&K. The positive patients include 72 adults and 11 children, he added.
He said maximum 3015 cases reported so far are from Jammu district followed by Udhampur district with 624 cases, Kathua 378 cases and Samba 306 cases. “There were 79 cases in Rajouri, 48 each in Reasi and Ramban districts, 42 in Doda, 25 in Poonch, 7 in Kishtwar, 23 in Kashmir and 37 from other parts of the country,” the official said.
The official further informed that a total of 1477 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals till date and of these, 1343 have been discharged and 85 patients are still under treatment.
