JAMMU, Sept 3: The ongoing dengue outbreak has sparked concern among residents of Jammu & Kashmir, with 189 cases reported so far this year.
The number of cases continues to rise, with 28 new cases reported just yesterday. Among these, 15 were from Jammu district, 5 from Kathua, 3 from Samba, 2 from Doda, and 1 each from Reasi and Rajouri, along with one case from another State/UT.
A Health Department official disclosed that 5,959 suspected dengue patients have been tested this year, with 186 confirmed cases. The highest number of cases has been recorded in Jammu district (111 cases), followed by Udhampur and Kathua (17 each), Rajouri (13), Poonch and Ramban (4 each), Reasi and Doda (3 each), and Kishtwar (1).
In addition to the cases in Jammu, four cases have also been reported from Kashmir, along with an equal number from other States/UTs. So far, 63 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals, with 30 discharged after treatment, while 31 remain under medical care.
The Health Department, in collaboration with the Jammu Municipal Corporation, is conducting fogging drives to prevent mosquito breeding. The official said there is no need to panic but take precautions. He advised the citizens to ensure no stagnation of water in and around their houses to reduce the risk of dengue mosquito and transmission.
