SRINAGAR, Mar 7: A woman had to deliver a dead baby on the roadside after she was turned away by the hospital authorities at Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Seer in district Anantnag.
The lady along with her husband reached the SDH, Seer after she complained of pain at around 10:30 pm on Friday. When the duo reached the hospital, they were told that there was nothing to worry about.
“The doctor told me that the time of her delivery was yet to come and that there was some infection in her urine because of which she was complaining of pain and that I should take her home,” the husband of the lady said.
The husband asked the doctor on duty to admit the patient overnight, to which, he was told that there was no bed available and that they can wait outside. “She was given a tablet and asked to go home,” he said.
What happened after that has shattered the couple as the lady gave birth to a baby boy while she, along with her husband was heading home.
“The infant was born alongside the road and that too dead; it was around 12 in the midnight and I had no watch to keep the sense of time and no mobile phone to call anyone,” he said.
When contacted, incharge Medical Officer, Sub-District Hospital, Seer Dr Mukhsit Nadeem told Excelsior that an inquiry committee has been constituted to look into the matter.
While saying that the lady was a high risk patient and was treated well, the doctor said: “She was a high risk patient and was being treated at Lalla Ded Hospital as well, but she has not shown the records to the doctor who has attended her,” he said.
“It was her fourth or fifth delivery and she was given the required treatment at that time, but still, we have constituted a team which will submit its report in two days,” he added.
