JAMMU: The flight operation on Wednesday remained hit as dense blanket of fog gripped the winter capital while chopper service to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi also remained affected due to fog in the Trikuta Hills.
Life in Jammu and outskirts this morning remained hampered due to envelop of fog while vehicles moved at snail’s pace with headlights on.
An official at Jammu airport said that flight operation also remained hit due to foggy conditions and around five flights could land and take off.
Meanwhile chopper service to Vaishno Devi hills from Katra got partially hit due to fog in Trikuta Hills.
A weatherman further said that currently light to moderate snowfall is being reported at many places of central South Kashmir since last night.
“It is likely to continue for next two to three hours,” he said and added that although there is no forecast of Heavy Snowfall.
He said that for next one week, scattered light to moderate snowfall is expected today in J&K and higher reaches of Ladakh during next 24 hours.
“Thereafter light snowfall will be at isolated places of J&K and Ladakh till January 19,” he said and added that no forecast of Heavy precipitation and as of now, another spell of snow of lower intensity most likely from January 21 to 23.
Jammu-Srinagar national highway also remained closed for third consecutive day due to landslide in Digdol due to which around 3,000 vehicles including trucks, commercial vehicles are stranded at different places.
A weatherman said that currently weather is overcast to cloudy in both UTs.
In Jammu the maximum temperature was 16.3 degree Celsius and the minimum was 6.5 degree Celsius and in Bhaderwah, the maximum temperature was 12.5 degree Celsius and the minimum was minus 1.1 degree Celsius.
People in Jammu were seen lighting bonfire in the morning at many places to keep themselves warm while school children rushed to schools in cold weather conditions after schools reopened post winter vacations.
