JAMMU, July 12: The Advisory Committee on Earth Sciences has approved establishment of Department of Earth Sciences to begin the Research Program (PhD/Collaborative Projects/Consultancy/Academia-Industry linkage) at Central University of Jammu by approving the PhD course work in Earth Sciences for the Academic Session 2020-2021.
The Department of Earth Sciences will start its functioning with the available infrastructure and with the Faculty members having experience and exposure in the proposed thrust area of the Department i.e (Water-Rock Interaction and Water Management Strategies, Geochemistry, Glaciology and Geomorphology).
The Advisory Committee also suggested to start the PG Programme with M Sc degree (Geology) in the second phase after the development of the Research Labs in Earth Sciences with the proven potential. The Department of Earth Sciences will focus the Natural Hazard issues in Himalayas with key focus on Glaciers and River system originating in Himalayas by laying emphasis on Geodynamics of Himalayas to understand the local problems having societal relevance.
