Department of Yogic Science in CUJ from next session

JAMMU, June 20: A Department of Arts and Yogic Sciences is likely to be established in the Central University of Jammu from the next academic session.
This was stated by Dr D L Choudhary, former Director of the Yoga Centre, University of Jammu and presently incharge Yoga Centre, Central University of Jammu, on his arrival here after attending National Seminar on Yoga in Delhi, where the information was shared.
Theme of the Seminar on Yoga, organized UGC and HRD Ministry on June 18, was introduction of M A, M Phil and PhD programmes in the Departments of Arts and Yogic Sciences, first of all in six Central Universities of the country from this academic session and then in twenty other Central Universities, including CUJ, from the next academic year.
The syllabi and other curricula along with eligibility for the selection of teaching staff for the Yoga Department, are being formulated by University Grant Commission. The UGC is going to introduce National Eligibility Test in the stream of Yoga as a qualification for selection of teaching staff for the Department of Art and Yogic Science Faculty.
Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister for HRD, who was chief guest in the seminar, spoke at length about the future of Yoga in the Central Universities of the country. She assured all help and support for introduction of Yoga as a subject in the Central Universities.
