UDHAMPUR, Apr 2: A middle aged labourer, who had lost his hearing power during bomb blast at Slathia Chowk Udhampur last month, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a hill near his house in village Kaghote in Ramnagar, last night.
The deceased was identified as Kaka Ram (50), son of Dodi Ram of Kaghote Tehsil Ramnagar. He was purportedly in depression after hearing loss in the bomb blast at Slathia Chowk Udhampur on March 9 in which one person was killed and 16 others were injured .
Reports said that the deceased had visited Jammu for seeking consultation of ENT doctors and since then he was in depression that apparently led to suicidal tendency. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
As per the local Sarpanch, the deceased told him after returning from Jammu that he would never get his hearing power back and thus will not be able to work for feeding his family. Even as the Sarpanch as well as family members of the deceased tried to convince him, Kaka Ram told them that a number of people would assemble there next day which hints that he had made up his mind for ending life.
As the family members went to sleep in the evening, Kaka Ram secretly left the house and jumped off around 300 meters deep Nallah from a nearby hillock.
The dead body was spotted this morning. On being informed, Police shifted the dead body to Ramnagar Hospital for the postmortem and other legal formalities. Police also registered the case and further investigation is going on.
