Deptt of English in Cluster University organizes Litfest

JAMMU, Dec 15: Under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor, Prof Bechan Lal, the Department of English, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu, organised a two-day Litfest here today.
The inaugural session commenced with the deliberations of Professor Anupama Vohra, DDE, Convenor Publication Cell, University of Jammu. She dwelt on “Navigating Women’s World: A Talk on Women Studies”. While speaking on the occasion, she reiterated that women’s status has really been uplifted in the society and the act of writing has been instrumental in it. She stressed on the sustenance of gender equality and gender sensitivity among the youth of the day.
However, she also expressed her concern about the increase of violence against women and children as well. She hoped that crimes against women will decrease with the spread of modern educational values. She further added that women, under the garb of feminism, must not misuse their power to dominated men or womenfolk.
Dr Garima Gupta from the Department of English, University of Jammu, was the key resource person for the afternoon sessions. The topic of her lecture was “Translation and Indian Literature: Some Reflections”. She maintained that during these times, there is dire need for intracultural and cross-cultural dialogue within and outside India for better communal harmony and peace. In this respect, translation as a discipline has a lot to contribute, she added.
Dr Geetanjali A Rana, Dean School of Arts felicitated the key note resource person for the session and the formal welcome address was given Dr Twinkle Suri, the Head Department of English.
Dr Jeet Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of English (SHLA) gave a welcome address which followed proceeding of the session.
The students participated in the activity wherein they translated texts of different languages and honed their translation skills. It was followed by an illuminating interactive session wherein students asked questions and shared their opinions.
Dr Indu Sharma, Dr Himanshi Vashishat and Kamaljot Kour, faculty Department of English coordinated in the event. Ananya Sharma and Komal from semester 7 of English Department (SHLA) anchored during both the sessions.
