JAMMU, Nov 16: Depa-rtment of Pediatrics, Government Medical College Jammu in collaboration with Indian Academy of Pediatrics City Branch Jammu, organized a “Short Run” in Jammu University Campus to commemorate IAP Healthy Lifestyle Day.
The day is an initiative conceptualized at the national level by Dr Rekha Harish, Prof and Head Department of Pediatrics GMC Jammu, who is also the National Convener Indian Academy of Pediatrics Task Force for Prevention of Childhood Obesity since 2012 to promote and preach the principles of Healthy Life Style.
Many doctors including senior faculty members and residents from Department of Pediatrics, Pediatricians and Anaesthetists along with morning walkers in the university campus participated in this run.
The event was organized by Prof Dr Rekha Harish HoD Pediatrics. Prof Archana Kesar, Dean Research Studies and Prof Yash Pal, HoD, Department of Botany, Jammu University were chief guest and guest of honour respectively. The participants included Dr G S Saini, Dr Sanjeev Digra, Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma, Dr Mohd Razaq, Dr Javed Iqbal, Dr Anuj Bhatti, Dr Sushil Sharma, Dr Jalpreet, Dr Depinder Kaur, Dr Javed Iqbal, Dr Arun Gandotra, Dr Kaushal Khajuria and Dr Ajay Choudhary.
Dr Sushil Sharma, Dr Shoukat and Prof G S Saini were the winners amongst male participants while Dr Sonam, Dr Jalpreet and Dr Rekha Harish were the winners amongst female participants. Nausheen was winner in junior category.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Archana Kesar and Prof Yash Pal emphasized the importance of healthy eating habits and including physical activity of at least one hour daily to keep fit in this era of stress-full life. Prof Rekha Harish explained principle of Healthy Lifestyle.
She advised the participants to take 5 different colours of fruits and vegetables daily, not exceed 2 hours per day of screen time, have one hour of physical activity daily and say no to all sugary drinks.
