Deptt of Remote Sensing to start PhD prog from current academic session

JAMMU, Mar 14: Department of Remote Sensing and GIS, University of Jammu will start PhD programme from the current academic session.
This was decided in University Syndicate which met in the University of Jammu under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar to take number of important academic decisions.
BB Vyas, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister/ Administrative Secretary, Finance Department, Financial Advisor JU attended the meeting.
Vice Chancellor welcomed the members and apprised them about the major developments and achievements of the University.
In this 103rd meeting of the Syndicate, 70 items were presented by Prof MK Dhar, Registrar, University of Jammu and out of these items it was principally agreed to accord status of a Department to International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resources Management. It was also resolved that Department of Remote Sensing and GIS will start a PhD Programme from the academic session 2014-15. Introduction of One-Month Library Internship Programme in MLib I Science course was also resolved.
Amendments were also endorsed in the regulations governing Jammu University Entrance Test for admission to the various academic programmes of the University off-site campuses and private affiliated colleges from the session 2014-15.
Introduction of PG Diploma in Global Destination Management (One-year) on Innovative Programme at the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management from the academic year 2014-15 was endorsed.
The Syndicate also endorsed the broad scheme of Choice Based Credit System for Post Graduate Degree Programme by the University in the main campus through regular mode. Up-gradation and conversion of the existing Geology programme to integrated MSc Applied Geology (two years) and MSc Tech in Applied Geology (three years) was also resolved.
It was also resolved to adopt the powers and functions of the Dean Academic Affairs in the University of Jammu on the analogy of Kashmir University.
The Syndicate meeting was attended by Prof Sheikh Javid Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Physical and Material Sciences, University of Kashmir, Prof Syeda Rukaya, Dean, Faculty of Oriental Learning, University of Kashmir, Dr Sameru Sharma, Principal, Government College of Engineering and Technology, Prof Jigar Mohammed, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Geeta Sumbli, Head Department of Botany, Prof KK Sharma, Head Department of Zoology and Prof MS Bhat, University of Kashmir.
