JAMMU, Sept 22: A deputation of different organisations of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) here today met Chief Secretary (CS) and raised their issues.
The deputation stated that the recent notification regarding reservation of seats in Urban Local Bodies election accommodated SCs, STs and women but ignored OBCs despite constitutional guarantee for them.
Deputation members also highlighted that OBC students of pre-matric classes, post-matric classes and students of higher studies are not getting scholarships for the last two years due to which most of the students have been compelled to leave their education due to poverty.
They also said that in SRO 126 of 1994 regarding reservation rules the word ‘RURAL’ was deleted from the list of ‘Weak and Privileged Classes’ (Other Social Castes) but now the OSC/OBC certificate issuing authorities are not issuing the OBC certificates for central government services saying that the word RURAL has not been omitted in the central lists for J&K OBCs whereas the urban masses of these castes are getting their OBC certificates for central government services.
They demanded that this harassment to OBC masses of these castes should be stopped.
The CS listened to the deputation and informed deputation members that J&K government is working on the issues of OBCs.
Kasturi Lal Basotra, chairman All J&K OBC Mahasabha; Kewal Fotra, general secretary Sain Samaj; Amit Mehra, working president OBC Samaj Basholi and others were present in the deputation.
