JAMMU, Oct 12: In a scenario where even Bollywood films hardly run for more than three weeks in local multiplexes and cinemas, latest Dogri film ‘Reet’ started its fourth-week run here at the Hari Theatre, where it was premiered on September 21, 2012.
Despite the fact that much awaited tax-exemption promised by the State Government is still caught up in the bureaucratic wrangling in Secretariat at Srinagar, the film has been witnessing steady flow of cinegoers as the audiences are thrilled to see a well made film in their mother tongue.
“I am not only happy to watch the film in my mother tongue but also the fact that being a UFO release, its technical and sound quality has come out like any other Bollywood film, said the young Neeraj Magotra who after watching the film was especially appreciative of the film’s songs and background music.
The film based on the story in which deplorable social custom of ‘Dohri’ ultimately leads to the sacrifice of young girl’s love and life to uphold family honor, is being liked by the cinemagoers, especially the ladies, who moved by the scenes are often seen with moist eyes.
Other than Pankaj Khajuria as the hero, and Ridhima Singh as the heroine, other actors who have impressed the public are Upendra as ‘Maddo’, Kusum Tikkoo as ‘Chachi’, Janak Khajuria as ‘girl’s father’. Others member of the cast who also gave good performances include Madan Rangela, Subhash Jamwal, J R Sagar, Shammi Malhotra, Neelam Singh, Santosh Sangra and Raghunanthan Singh Bali.
The cinematography by Rajesh Khajuria, lilting music composed by Arvind, popular and heart touching lyrics by B S Dardi and Rajneesh Gupta also have emerged as strong points of the film.
Talking to Excelsior, Pankaj Khajuria, the producer, director and main actor of the film, said that positive response of public is certainly encouraging for me and entire production team of Navrudra Productions, to plan future projects also. He said the fact ‘Reet’ produced by using locally available technical and acting talent has proved that we have talent to produce good films in Jammu.
