SRINAGAR : Despite fresh snowfall at several places, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained open for one-way traffic.
“We have allowed down convoy from Srinagar to Jammu today after the snow on the highway was cleared by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the road, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, a traffic police spokesman said.
Since the road is opened for only one-way, no vehicle will be allowed from Jammu to Srinagar today, he said.
He said there was six to eight inches of fresh snowfall on both sides of Jawahar tunnel and Banihal area since this morning. But, he said, the snow has been cleared by BRO and traffic was later allowed.
He said vehicles, including those carrying passengers and other trucks and load carriers were later allowed to proceed towards Jammu.
Only one-way traffic is allowed on the highway for the past about two months to avoid any traffic jam. (AGENCIES)
